CALIFORNIA DREAMING
INDIAN WELLS TENNIS GARDEN
Oh where do I even begin??? We had a fantastic trip - a HOT fantastic trip, but a great one none the less. Indian Wells is a beautiful place - palm trees and sunshine!!! It is dry - truly the desert. I mean, grass doesn't grow there unless it is planted and watered (like the tennis garden or a golf course). I think I saw one stray weed the entire weekend. No Joke. If you notice in the pictures - there are not even any trees on the mountains. Just rock - and dirt - and sand - and heat... lots and lots of heat.... It was quite the experience just being there, and even more of an honor that my husband was actually playing in the tournament! We could not have asked for a more perfect get-a-way. Bring on the Aloe vera .... girl has got a sunburn!!!!

I personally think the stress of the boys actually playing in the tournament took away from the excitement of the Open. For example, a pro like Federer, would be playing in the Grand Stadium at noon, another pro, like Djokovic, was scheduled to play in the Grand Stadium at like 2 - well Mark and Jeff were supposed to play at noon - so they check in, wait on their names to be called, wait a little longer, wait some more, go to the bathroom, wait a little more, and now its like 3 o'clock in the afternoon and they have missed getting to see 2 pro matches just waiting on their turn to play. So then by 3 they are physically exhausted from sitting in the heat and now its time to go play a match in the heat of the day. Other than those kinds of things, the trip was fabulous. I think they both played great - it was just really good competition. And, like I told Mark, you cant lose sight of the perspective. Yes, it would have been great to walk away holding the Nationals Title, BUT they got the opportunity to do something that most people only dream of.... and they should be proud of themselves no matter what at this point. I would rather go to California and lose than never have the chance to go at all.

Every single flower has its on little water sprayer... I am assuming that the water evaporates in the heat as soon as it sprays out... so much for general irrigation. This is crazy - EACH FLOWER..... |
