STARTING THE NEW YEAR OFF RIGHT....

AND THAT INCLUDES MAKING SURE WE MEET OUR INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE AGAIN THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY....

The first month the girls were home from the hospital, Mark and I were beyond O.C.D. about visitors.  We would not allow the twins to go anywhere.  Rose was required to shower and bathe and scrub if she came home from anywhere..... We went through gallon jugs of hand sanitizer.  The cleaning lady was coming like every other day.  We were on top of the germ control....  But like every thing else in life, as time went on we got a little lax.  I took the twins to family events for Christmas.  I allowed Rose to not shower after Sunday School before holding them.  I even let them hide out in the back booth of the Mexican Restaurant one night so we could go to dinner.  We had our first round of RSV antibodies.  I thought the twins were doing fantastic.  BUT, Within one week of letting the girls off lock-down mode - we were hospital bound.  Pneumonia!!!

We spent three nights in the hospital on breathing treatments and steroids before we were allowed to come home.  I thought the NICU was a bad experience - nothing compares to an infant who cant sleep FOR THREE DAYS because she is doped on steroids... - wait...  hold on....  TWO INFANTS.  The first night in the hospital is another one of "those nights" I will always remember....  I spent the day at the hospital with the girls (xrays, steroids, breathing treatments, flu swabs, RSV test, etc...) and was exhausted by the time Mark got there after work.  He ordered a pizza and we prepared for another night on a hospital bed.  HA HA HA... Silly us - there was no need for a bed????  The girls were drugged!!!  No joke.  THEY SCREAMED for 24 straight hours.  NOT KIDDING.  TWENTY-FOUR STRAIGHT HOURS.  When Mark left for work the next morning he just took our pizza home with him to put it in the refrigerator.  OH.  MY.  GOSH.
This made the SECOND WORST DAY OF MY LIFE (second to the Wednesday after delivery when Maryn's lungs collapsed)

They look happy only because Rachael is a fantastic "bouncer"....  Its an illusion...  No one was really happy....

ZERO TO THREE IN NO TIME

HOW CAN IT BE THAT THE LONGEST THREE MONTHS OF MY LIFE HAVE ALSO BEEN THE SHORTEST THREE MONTHS OF MY LIFE ???

I stand in amazement at how fast my baby girls have grown...  I am so far behind documenting them and their growth its not even funny....  I am about to get better I promise.  Our days seem to come and go as quickly as the weather changes.  I am up and out the door by 5:30 a.m. each morning.  Mark is gone by 6:45 a.m.  By the time we go to work all day, get home, load the car, take Lizzie home, check on things at the new house, cook pick-up supper, bathe all three kiddos, feed everyone, and get in bed.... I look up and its 10:00 at night....  Our life is a blur.  I am trying to remember every second because I don't ever want to forget... but at the same time I'm so ready to sleep all night long again.
The "Glare"

The good news is we are officially on the GROWTH CHART!!! Whoo... hoo....  The REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD NEWS is that at 4 months both girls should be withing the 5% range of growth of a healthy "uncorrected" infant and that means.....  NO MORE EXPENSIVE SUPPLEMENT!!!!  $$$$$  Did I just get a pay raise?????

The girls are still about 1/2 breast milk, 1/2 formula.  I have not been able to keep up with them since about they hit the 6 week old mark.  They are guzzling down their bottle and most of the time begging for seconds!  Mare-Mare may have started off slow on the suck jug, but have no worries - baby girl is definitely making up for lost time - have you seen those cheeks????

They are actually doing great sleeping. I really cant complain.  We put them down for bed around 9 p.m. and they will sleep until somewhere between 3-4 a.m. most nights.  I think the "Merlins Magic Sleepsuits" definitely help.  Mills is by far my better sleeper.  Sweet Pea LOVES bedtime.  I really think she would sleep longer if I was not waking her up when I feed Maryn.  Few and far between is the she one to wake up first.

A LOOK INTO THEIR LITTLE PERSONALITIES:

Maryn:
  • A little more laid back
  • Always smiling
  • Very content most of the time
  • Will literally gag and make herself sick if she doesnt want to finish her bottle (stubborn???)
  • The absolute BEST snuggler!  Little bit knows how to nuzzle her tiny nose right in the crease of a neck...  she can melt your heart with her little "hugs"
  • She makes her own schedule and doesnt really seem to care to stay on her Momma's
  • Not the biggest fan of bath time - really just tolerates it for a limited amount of time
  • HATES to have her nose cleaned
  • Loves riding in the car and immediately goes to sleep when she gets put in her carseat
  • HATES tummy-time
  • LOVES her passy (combine this with a car ride and you have got yourself a match made in heaven)
  • The last one to go to bed at night and the first one to rise in the morning... (awake but HAPPY)

Mills:
  • At first was very demanding but lately has been very easy... it just took me some time to figure out things she liked and didnt like
  • My more serious child....  She always makes you feel like you have something in your nose by the way she looks at you.... Girlfriend has the "glare" down-pat
  • Loves to sit up and look around
  • LOVES tummy-time (75% of the time)
  • HATES a passifier... the kid would rather hold an empty bottle in her mouth... seriously...not suck on it - just hold it
  • LOVES bath-time.  This is a sure-fire winner every night!
  • Does not love the car majority of the time....  Actually she is o.k. with the car only while the car is moving.  Please do not stop at any stop signs or red lights, or heaven forbid a drive-thru.....  she will let you know her disapproval immediately.
  • Is the sun down?  Because if its dark outside the only think on Millie's mind is a bath, a bottle, or a bed....
  • Extremely entertained by Rose....  Definitely the one that will be 2 steps behind big sister at all times.  She will actually let Rose pick her up and drag her around....  Rose successfully feeds her bottles and they watch TV together.

ARE WE REALLY THE PARENTS OF THESE TWO BEAUTIFUL TWIN BABY GIRLS ???
HOW DID WE BECOME SO LUCKY???
YES, YES, YES WE ARE...... AND I HONESTLY CANT EVEN REMEMBER LIFE BEFORE THEM.

THEY ARE LIVING PROOF OF TWO THINGS:

1) COVER ALL YOUR BASES IN PRAYER OR THE LORD WILL THROW CURVE BALLS
2)  A MOTHERS HEART CAN LOVE INFINITELY
